Honor God
HONORING GOD
To begin, God first loved us. He is our creator and was made in his own image; we were destined to be his even before the day we were born; before we knew of his existence. God loves us even in our sin nature; through his mercy and grace, He gave His son, the Lord Jesus Christ, as deliverance for our salvation.
In learning more about the existence of our Heavenly Fat her and how we are to honor him, we can be more enlightened to His magnificence reflected through the Gospel, the Word and ministry. Reading deeply about his characteristics, his existence, his power and indeed, his love, according to His words gives us better understanding and to be more open to or to have a closer relationship with our Heavenly Father.
HIS EXISTENCE
HIS SOVEREIGNTY
HIS LOVE FOR US
"I am the Alpha and Omega,
says the Lord God,
who is,
and who was,
and who is to come,
the Almighty." (Rev. 1:8)
By definition, God is – creator of heaven and earth, He is Alpha and Omega. He is the Sovereign God; supreme in power and authority, ruler, and independent of all others. There is absolutely nothing that happens in the universe that is outside of God’s influence and authority. As King of kings and Lord of lords, God has no limitations; God is divine, sacred and holy:
* God's omniscience - God is all-knowing
* God's omnipresence - God is all-present/all-seeing
* God's omnipotence - God is all-power
God is above all things and before all things. He is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. He is immortal, and He is present everywhere so that everyone can know Him (Revelation 21:6).
HIS SOVEREIGNTY
The sovereignty of God means his supremacy, his kingship and his Godhood. He is the Most High, according to His will in the inhabitants of the earth and in Heaven. He is the Almighty, the Possessor of all power in heaven and earth, so that none can defeat His counsels, thwart His purpose, or resist His will (Ps. 115:3). To say that God is sovereign is to declare that He is "The Governor among the nations" (Ps. 22:28). To say that God is sovereign is to declare that He is the "Only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords" (1 Tim. 6:15).
Creator: Self-made: (“self” sufficient, “self” governing, “self” directed, “self” ruling)
Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” (Isaiah 43:7)
God created all things and holds all things together, both in heaven and on earth, both visible and invisible (Colossians 1:16). Whatever He wants to do in the universe, He does, for nothing is impossible with Him (Jeremiah 32:17).
All Knowing: God knows all things past, present, and future. There is no limit to His knowledge, for God knows everything completely before it even happens (Romans 11:33).
In Control: God is in control of all things and rules over all things. He has power and authority over nature, earthly kings, history, angels, and demons. Even Satan himself has to ask God’s permission before he can act (Psalm 103:19).
HIS LOVE FOR US
Because God is sovereign, He has the greatest capacity to love his own creation. Because of his sovereignty and his love for “His children;” because we are His, nothing will ever come into our lives that He does not either decree or allow – Our commitment is to always love and serve Him. Not only does the all-powerful God loves and cares about us. It is a testimony to His sovereignty and His ability to support this declaration over and over again. No matter what we face in life, we can take comfort in the fact that God is sovereign.
"Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations." (Deuteronomy 7:9)
"The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing." (Zephaniah 3:17)
"God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believe in him, will not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:15).
