Emotions
"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." Philippians 4:8
God created us in his image, to be like Him and in fellowship with Him. God has created us to show compassion and love. He has equipped us to have genuine emotions for purposes and preservation and with a spirit, body and soul to be healthy and whole. Emotions have value and purpose: Joy, happiness, peace; and yes, fear and anger. But the misuse of our emotions can affect our physical and spiritual health in a negative way rather than positive. When sin came into the world (Adam and Eve), negative feelings also came. There is a reason why God has given us emotions, but they were not intended as something that should have power over us, but we should be in control over them.
Positive Emotions:
The examples of good, normal, and healthy emotions are: the happiness, the joy and peace; happiness as with family and friends and in the fulfillment of God’s purpose, and joy and peace. Compassion and love for others through; caring, empathy and sympathy are emotions that are stretched out to others. Adoration is an awesome emotion in worship of our Lord and Jesus Christ. And yes, good healthy laughter for the wondrous, undefiled, humor in life.
Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things."
Negative Emotions:
The Bible is also filled with Scriptures that warn us to guard our hearts against emotions such as fear, worry, anxiety, anger, unforgiveness, jealousy, grief and guilt. Most of us could name at least one or two that we struggle with. The kinds of thoughts and feelings we allow in our life can impact our well being. God wants us to feel strong and healthy. It’s difficult to seek the truth about ourselves, but with the Holy Spirit, each of us can face the truth, obey God’s Word and make positive changes for our own emotional well-being.
Ephesians 4:26 says, “When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down.” Ask God to show you how much mercy He gives you every day; Let go and Let God.
Remember that in good times and in bad, it is God’s will for you to be emotionally healthy and constantly at peace.
